ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਓ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੈਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਓ ॥੭॥
jit ko laa-i-o tit hee laagaa taisay karam kamaa-i-o. ||7||
As God links the mortals, so are they linked, and so are the deeds they do. ||7||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Wherever the flow of life gently places us, that is where we find ourselves. And that shapes what we do.
Since our setting shapes us, it is worth asking to be placed near the good.
Where we are placed shapes what we do.
Jit ko laa-i-o tit hee laagaa — as the One joins someone, so they are joined. Taisay karam kamaa-i-o — and so are the deeds they do. This is hukam, the One's will and the way life flows.
This is not meant to make us feel stuck. Think of a plant by a sunny window. It grows toward the light. Since our setting shapes us, we can ask to be placed near what is good. That leads straight into the next verse, about the Sangat.
A Question to Sit With
How do the people and places around you shape who you are becoming?
