Moonlight, moonlight - in the courtyard of the mind, let the moonlight of God shine down. ||1||

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Moonlight, moonlight: let the soft light of the One shine down into the courtyard of your mind.

Just as moonlight fills a quiet yard at night, let that gentle glow fill you.

Let a gentle light settle over your mind like moonlight.
The deeper layer

The One's light can shine into the mind, the way moonlight fills a courtyard.

Chaadnaa means moonlight. Aangan is the open courtyard in the middle of a house. Antar chaadnaa: let the light fill the inside.

This song is an Ashtapadee, a song of eight verses. Each verse begins with a doubled word, said twice like a chant. There is moonlight, then remembering, letting go, asking, staying awake and holding close. Each one is called the finest.

The moon is a gentle picture. Moonlight is soft and cool, and it does not burn. Think of a busy house going quiet at night, with moonlight lying across the floor. The Name settles over a busy mind the same way.

A Question to Sit With

What quiets your mind at the end of a long day?
