Sweet Above All Is Remembering the Name

ਆਰਾਧਨਾ ਅਰਾਧਨੁ ਨੀਕਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਨਾ ॥੨॥
aaraaDhnaa araaDhan neekaa har har naam araaDhanaa. ||2||
Meditation, meditation - sublime is meditation on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Remember, remember: sweetest of all is holding the Name close in your heart.

To keep the One in mind is the finest thing a day can carry.

Nothing a day holds is sweeter than remembering the One.
The deeper layer

The sweetest practice of all is remembering the Naam.

Aaraadhnaa means remembering and worshipping with love. The word is said twice, like a chant. Neekaa har har naam araadhnaa: the finest thing is to remember the Name of the One.

This is simran: keeping the One present in your thoughts. It is not saying words just to say them. It is holding a living presence in mind. Think of carrying a photo of someone you love in your pocket. You do not stare at it all day. But you know it is there, and it warms you.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what do you keep in your thoughts even when they are not near?
