In the Shelter, Everything Turns Noble

kaho naanak tis sabh kichh neekaa jo parabh kee sarnaaganaa. ||8||1||4||
Says Nanak, everything is sublime and noble, for one who enters the Sanctuary of God. ||8||1||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: everything turns noble and good for the one who steps into the shelter of the One.

Under that roof, even ordinary moments shine.

In the right shelter, everything becomes noble.
The deeper layer

Everything turns good for the one who comes into the One's shelter.

Sarnaaganaa means coming into the shelter, like stepping in out of the rain. Tis sabh kichh neekaa: for that person, everything is fine and noble.

All the practices of this song meet here. Remembering, letting go, asking, singing and holding close stop feeling like hard work. Under that roof, they come naturally. Think of a warm kitchen on a cold day. Once you are inside, you do not have to try to feel warm.

The whole chant of doubled words is gathered into one home.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most sheltered and safe?
