Verse 2 of 9

With You Near, Soul and Body Wake Up

tuDh aavat mayraa man tan hari-aa har jas tum sang gaavnaa. ||1||
With your coming, my soul and body are rejuvenated, and I sing with you the Lord's Praises. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The moment you come near, my body and soul feel new again,

and I sing the praises of the One right alongside you.

With the Beloved near, the whole self feels new.
The deeper layer

When the loved one comes near, you feel brand new.

Man tan hari-aa: "my mind and body turn green." It is the picture of a plant after rain, fresh and full of life again.

Think of coming home tired after a long school day. Then your best friend knocks on the door, and suddenly you are not tired at all.

Being near the Beloved and the Guru's people works like that. The tiredness lifts. And joy turns into song all by itself: "I sing the praises of the One together with you."

A Question to Sit With

Who makes you feel brighter just by being near?
