Verse 5 of 9

One Glimpse and the Soul Is Made New

ਦਰਸਨੁ ਭੇਟਤ ਹੋਤ ਪੁਨੀਤਾ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਗਰਭਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਨਾ ॥੪॥
darsan bhaytat hot puneetaa punrap garabh na paavnaa. ||4||
Beholding the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, one is sanctified, and is no longer consigned to the womb of reincarnation. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

One loving glimpse of the One makes the whole self feel washed clean and made new.

The soul comes home and rests, no longer wandering.

One true glimpse can make the whole self feel new.
The deeper layer

One loving glimpse of the One can make you new.

Darsan means seeing someone you love, face to face. Seeing the One this way, a person becomes puneet, clean and made new.

The verse then says that person does not come back into the womb again. Many in India believed a soul is born again and again, in a long round of lives. Here that long wandering ends. The soul comes home and rests.

Think of a bird that has flown all day, from tree to tree. At last it finds its own nest, tucks in its wings and stays.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt refreshed, like starting over?
