Verse 7 of 9

Nowhere Else Feels Like Home

ਸੰਤ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਜਾਵਨਾ ॥੬॥
sant binaa mai thaa-o na ko-ee avar na soojhai jaavnaa. ||6||
Without the Saint, I have no place of rest at all; I cannot think of any other place to go. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the holy people, my heart finds no place to rest.

I cannot think of anywhere else to go.

The heart rests best among the holy people.
The deeper layer

Home is the people who keep the One close.

Sant binaa mai thaa-o na ko-ee: "without the holy ones, I have no place to rest." The sant are the good and loving people who keep the One close.

Think of the first night at a sleepover camp. The bed is fine and the room is nice. But you cannot quite settle until you see your friend in the next bunk.

That is the ache here. The heart feels at home among the Guru's people. It cannot think of anywhere else to go.

A Question to Sit With

Where, or with whom, does your heart feel most at rest?
