The Food That Ends All Hunger

ਖਾਵਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਵਨਾ ॥੨॥
khaavnaa jit bhookh na laagai santokh sadaa taripteevnaa. ||2||
The real food is that which will never leave you hungry again; it will leave you contented and satisfied forever. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The food worth eating is the one that never leaves you hungry again;

it fills you with a contentment that stays.

Contentment is a fullness that stays.
The deeper layer

The best food is the kind that leaves you content for good.

Santokh means contentment, the feeling that you have enough. Here, contentment is the food. It fills the heart instead of the stomach. And it does not wear off by dinnertime. Santokh sadaa tariptee-vnaa means content and satisfied forever.

Think of how you feel after a big family meal, laughing together at the table. That warm, full feeling is a small taste of santokh.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel content, full in a way food cannot make you?
