The Clothing That Keeps You Whole

ਪੈਨਣਾ ਰਖੁ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਨਾਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਥੀਵਨਾ ॥੩॥
painnaa rakh pat parmaysur fir naagay nahee theevnaa. ||3||
The real clothes are those which protect your honor before the Transcendent Lord, and do not leave you naked ever again. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The clothing worth wearing is this: the One keeps your honor safe.

Then you are never left bare again.

Grace is a covering that keeps you whole.
The deeper layer

The best clothes are the ones that keep your honor safe before the One.

Painnaa means what you wear. The clothing worth wearing is rakh pat, the kind that protects your dignity. Once you wear it, you are never left bare again. Cloth wears thin and gets too small. This covering is made of grace, and it keeps you whole.

Think of a warm blanket your grandmother gave you. It covers you, and it also reminds you that you are loved.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel safe and dignified, just as you are?
