The Word of the Shabad is understood through the Perfect True Guru.

The True Lord is overflowing with all powers.
ਅਫਰਿਓ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਤੂ ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
afri-o vayparvaahu sadaa too naa tis til na tamaa-ee hay. ||14||
You are beyond our grasp, and forever independent. You do not have even an iota of greed. ||14||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Word opens up when the perfect Guru helps me hear it.
You are overflowing with every power there is.
You are beyond my grasp and completely free, and there is not the tiniest bit of greed in You. You only give.
The One gives everything and needs nothing in return.
Vayparvaahu (carefree, self-sufficient) and the total absence of greed describe a One who gives purely, needing nothing back. The Shabad becomes clear through the Guru, not through cleverness.
A Question to Sit With
What might it feel like to give something without wanting anything back?
