The Priceless Jewel Who Weighs With Kindness

ਆਪੇ ਰਤਨੁ ਅਨੂਪੁ ਅਮੋਲੋ ॥
aapay ratan anoop amolo.
You Yourself are the jewel, incomparably beautiful and priceless.
ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਤੋਲੋ ॥
aapay parkhay pooraa tolo.
You Yourself are the Assessor, the Perfect Weigher.
ਆਪੇ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਕਸਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਲੈ ਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
aapay kis hee kas bakhsay aapay day lai bhaa-ee hay. ||8||
You Yourself test and forgive. You Yourself give and take, O Siblings of Destiny. ||8||

In plain words

You are a jewel more beautiful than any price could name.

You are the one who weighs things fairly and perfectly.

You test us, and You forgive us; You give, and You gather back, all with the same steady, caring hand.

The One who weighs my life does so with a kind and forgiving hand.
The deeper layer

The One is the priceless jewel, and also the kind, fair one who weighs it.

Aapay ratan anoop amolo — You are the jewel, more beautiful than anything, beyond any price. Aapay parkhay pooraa tolo — You are the one who checks and weighs, perfectly and fairly.

A judge who weighs things could sound scary. But look at the next line. Aapay kis hee kas bakhsay — You test, and You forgive. Aapay day lai — You give, and You take back. Testing, forgiving, and giving all come in the same breath.

Think of a music teacher who listens closely to every note you play. The teacher hears the mistakes. But the teacher listens because they care, and they help you play better. The weighing is caring, not punishing.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to know you can be tested and forgiven at the same time?
