Verse 14 of 16

Even the Great Ones Wait at Your Door

barahmaa bisan mahays du-aarai.
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva stand at His Door;
oobhay sayveh alakh apaarai.
they serve the unseen, infinite Lord.
Millions of others can be seen crying at His door; I cannot even estimate their numbers. ||14||

In plain words

Even the greatest beings the old stories tell of stand humbly at Your door, serving You.

Countless others gather there too, longing for a single glimpse of You.

There are so many that no one could ever count them, and You have room for every one.

Even the mightiest beings are seekers before the One.
The deeper layer

Even the greatest wait at the One's door.

Barahmaa bisan mahays du-aarai — Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva stand at the door. In the Hindu tradition they are great and honored figures. Here they are shown serving alakh apaarai, the unseen, endless One. This does not put anyone down. It shows how great the One is.

Hor kaytee dar deesai billaadee — countless others are seen at the door, crying out and longing. Mai ganat na aavai kaa-ee — I cannot even count them. Think of a huge crowd outside a stadium, stretching farther than you can see. The One's door is open to every one of them.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to imagine even the greatest beings still looking and longing?
