Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 84
Verse 7 of 16

We Are All Travelers Heading Home

maran likhaa-ay mandal meh aa-ay.
With their death already ordained, mortals come into this world.
ki-o rahee-ai chalnaa parthaa-ay.
How can they remain here? They have to go to the world beyond.
sachaa amar sachay amraa pur so sach milai vadaa-ee hay. ||7||
True is the Lord's Command; the true ones dwell in the eternal city. The True Lord blesses them with glorious greatness. ||7||

In plain words

Every one of us arrives here already knowing that one day we will move on; that is simply part of the journey.

This place was never meant to be our final home.

The true-hearted go on to a lasting home, welcomed with honor, and the flow of life carries them gently there.

This world is a way-station on a journey toward a lasting home.
The deeper layer

Death is written from the start, and it leads home: we are travelers, this world is a way-station, and the lasting home (amraa pur) is reached under the gentle carrying of amar, the True Command. No dread is left in the image.

A Question to Sit With

What makes a place feel like home to you?
