Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 88
Verse 15 of 16

Living True, You Are Dressed in Honor

ਸਾਚ ਬਿਨਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਿਝੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
saach binaa dar sijhai na ko-ee.
Without Truth, no one succeeds in the Court of the Lord.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੈਝੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
saach sabad paijhai pat ho-ee.
Through the True Shabad, one is robed in honor.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
aapay bakhas la-ay tis bhaavai ha-umai garab nivaaraa hay. ||15||
He forgives those with whom He is pleased; they silence their egotism and pride. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nothing false ever carries you home to the One.

But living true — matching your outside to your inside — wraps you in a quiet honor no one can take.

When grace touches a heart, the loud ego softens and grows still, and pride melts into gratitude.

Living true is the honor that never wears out.
The deeper layer

Saach binaa dar sijhai na ko-ee — without Truth, no one makes it through the One's door. Through the true Word, paijhai pat ho-ee, a person is dressed in honor, and ha-umai garab, ego and pride, grows quiet — like a fever that breaks and heals.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like when your outside actions match your inside heart?
