Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 89
Verse 9 of 17

Turning Away, We Circle the Same Lessons

cha-oraaseeh narak saakat bhogaa-ee-ai.
The faithless cynic has to endure 8.4 million hellish incarnations.
jaisaa keechai taiso paa-ee-ai.
As he acts, so does he suffer.
satgur baajhahu mukat na ho-ee kirat baaDhaa garas deenaa hay. ||9||
Without the True Guru, there is no liberation. Bound and gagged by his own actions, he is helpless. ||9||

In plain words

When a heart turns fully away from the One, it can circle the same troubles again and again.

Whatever we do tends to come back around to us.

And with the True Guru, the tight knot loosens and the endless circle opens into freedom.

No circle of habit is a cage; the Guru can always open it.
The deeper layer

Jaisaa keechai taiso paa-ee-ai — as you act, so you receive. A heart turned away from the One circles the same troubles, tied in the knot of its own actions (kirat baaDhaa). Satgur baajhahu mukat na ho-ee — the True Guru is the one who opens the circle.

A Question to Sit With

What is a habit-circle you would like to gently step out of?
