Verse 15 of 17

A Heart Ruled by Fear Never Rests

kookar sookar kahee-ahi koorhi-aaraa.
The false are called pigs and dogs.
bha-uk mareh bha-o bha-o bha-o haaraa.
They bark themselves to death; they bark and bark and howl in fear.
man tan jhoothay koorh kamaaveh durmat dargeh haaraa hay. ||15||
False in mind and body, they practice falsehood; through their evil-mindedness, they lose out in the Court of the Lord. ||15||

In plain words

A life built entirely on pretending is a restless, noisy one.

A mind ruled by fear churns and churns and never settles.

There is a kinder way: living true, inside and out. When what you show matches what you are, the noise quiets and peace comes near.

A heart ruled by fear never rests; living true lets the noise go quiet.
The deeper layer

Man tan jhoothay koorh kamaaveh — false in mind and body, a life built on pretending. Bha-uk mareh, it barks itself out, restless and afraid. Living true, inside and out, brings the noise to rest.

A Question to Sit With

What is one place you can be fully yourself, with nothing to pretend?
