Even Great Learning Leaves a Restless Heart Thirsty

koorh muthee chaalai baho raahee.
Cheated by falsehood, the self-willed manmukh walks along many paths;
manmukh daajhai parh parh bhaahee.
he may be highly educated, but he burns in the fire.
amrit naam guroo vad daanaa naam japahu sukh saaraa hay. ||10||
The Guru is the Great Giver of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. Chanting the Naam, sublime peace is obtained. ||10||

In plain words

Chasing what is false, a person can wander down many, many paths.

You can be very clever and learned and still feel a restless burning inside.

The Guru offers the Naam freely — and holding it close, a deep, cool peace finally settles the heart.

Even great learning leaves the heart thirsty until it holds the Name.
The deeper layer

Manmukh daajhai parh parh bhaahee — reading and reading, the self-facing mind still burns. Knowledge alone does not cool the heart. The amrit naam, given freely by the Guru, vad daanaa, the great Giver, does. Learning is good, and the Naam makes it whole.
