Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 92
Verse 11 of 17

This Short Day Is Precious, So Turn Now

saakat faasee parhai ikaylaa.
The faithless cynic is caught in the noose all alone.
jam vas kee-aa anDh duhaylaa.
The miserable spiritually blind person is caught in the power of Death.
raam naam bin mukat na soojhai aaj kaal pach jaataa hay. ||11||
Without the Lord's Name, liberation is not known. He shall waste away, today or tomorrow. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When we cut ourselves off from the One, we can feel tangled and alone.

Everything seems harder in that lonely fog.

Our days here are short and precious. Without the Name a heart feels lost — so gather the Name today, and step into freedom while the day is bright.

This short, precious day is exactly the time to turn toward the One.
The deeper layer

Without raam naam, freedom stays out of sight, and a life wastes away aaj kaal — today or tomorrow. Our days are short and precious, so gather the Naam now, while there is light.

A Question to Sit With

What would you do today if you treasured it as a precious gift?
