Verse 16 of 16

How Could I Ever Count Your Glories?

ki-aa kahee-ai gun katheh ghanayray.
How can I chant Your uncounted glories?
ant na paavahi vaday vadayray.
Even the greatest of the great do not know Your limits.
naanak saach milai pat raakho too sir saahaa paatisaahaa hay. ||16||6||12||
Please bless Nanak with the Truth, and preserve his honor; You are the supreme emperor above the heads of kings. ||16||6||12||

In plain words

How could I ever finish singing all Your countless wonders?

Even the greatest beings cannot find where Your greatness ends.

Nanak says: bless me with Truth and keep my honour safe — You are the King above all kings.

The One's wonders are countless, gentle and boundless above every crown.
The deeper layer

Wonder and humility: the One's glories are ghanayray (countless), and even vaday vadayray, the greatest of the great, cannot find their end. The prayer is for saach (Truth) and for one's honour kept — the One is sir saahaa paatisaahaa, emperor above the heads of kings.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so wonderful you could never finish describing it?
