The One Behind Every Change

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay daykh dikhaavai aapay.
You Yourself see, and cause Yourself to be seen.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ਆਪੇ ॥
aapay thaap uthaapay aapay.
You Yourself establish, and You Yourself disestablish.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
aapay jorh vichhorhay kartaa aapay maar jeevaa-idaa. ||15||
The Creator Himself unites and separates; He Himself kills and rejuvenates. ||15||

In plain words

The One sees everything, and helps you see too.

The One sets things up and takes them down, brings friends together and lets them part.

Every change, every beginning and every ending, flows from the same One, who turns endings into new beginnings.

Every ending in the One's hands is also a beginning.
The deeper layer

The One is behind every change: every start, every end, every meeting and every parting.

Aapay daykh dikhaavai aapay: the One sees, and also helps us see. Aapay thaap uthaapay aapay: the One builds things up and takes them down.

Aapay jorh vichhorhay kartaa: the Maker brings people together and lets them part. Think of friends who sit together one year and end up in different classes the next.

Aapay maar jeevaa-idaa: the One ends life and gives life again. Death is part of a bigger rhythm, like autumn leaves falling and spring leaves growing back. The same One holds both the ending and the new beginning.

A Question to Sit With

Can you think of an ending that turned into a new beginning?
