The Seeds We Plant

panch tat sunnahu pargaasaa.
From the Primal Void, the five elements became manifest.
dayh sanjogee karam abhi-aasaa.
They joined to form the body, which engages in actions.
buraa bhalaa du-ay mastak leekhay paap punn beejaa-idaa. ||14||
Both bad and good are written on the forehead, the seeds of vice and virtue. ||14||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Out of the stillness the five elements appeared.

They joined together to make the body, which then goes about doing things.

Both the kind deeds and the unkind ones leave their mark, like seeds we plant that later grow, so we plant good ones.

Our deeds are seeds; plant kind ones.
The deeper layer

The five elements join to form the body, which then acts. Good and bad 'written on the forehead' are the seeds of vice and virtue, and our own deeds sow them.

A Question to Sit With

What kind seed could you plant with your actions today?
