ਤੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲਾ ॥
too akaal purakh naahee sir kaalaa.
You are the Deathless Primal Being. Death does not hover over Your head.
ਤੂ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲੇਖ ਅਗੰਮ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
too purakh alaykh agamm niraalaa.
You are the unseen inaccessible and detached Primal Lord.
ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤਿ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
sat santokh sabad at seetal sahj bhaa-ay liv laa-i-aa. ||3||
You are true and content; the Word of Your Shabad is cool and soothing. Through it, we are lovingly, intuitively attuned to You. ||3||

No one can write You down, reach the end of You, or fence You in.
Your Word is true and calm, cool as shade on a hot day; resting in it, I settle into an easy, natural closeness with You.
The truest things are calm and cool, never rushed or afraid.
Akaal Purakh means the Being beyond death. Over the One, nothing hovers or looms at all, not even death. Sat-santokh (truth and contentment) and sabad seetal (the cool, soothing Word) lead into sahaj bhaa-ay, the natural ease of a heart that has stopped straining.
