Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is only One. Its Name is Truth. It is the Creator of all. It is fearless and full of love, beyond time, never born, shining on its own. And the One is found by the Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
Eating, drinking, laughing and sleeping, a person forgets that one day they will die.
Forgetting the Master, they lose their way, and their life turns empty and sad. No one gets to stay here forever.
Good, ordinary things can fill a whole day until you forget that life here does not last.
Khaanaa peenaa hasnaa sa-unaa means eating, drinking, laughing and sleeping. These are good things, and the verse does not scold them. It notices how they can fill our whole day.
Think of a phone full of fun apps. You can scroll for hours and forget to call someone you love. Khasam visaar means forgetting the Master, the One we belong to. The verse calls such a life Dharig jeevan, a cursed life. Put simply, it is a life missing the very thing that would make it whole.
Nahee rahnaa means no one stays here forever. That is exactly why the heart reaches for the One, who does.
What is something you enjoy so much that it can make you forget everything else?
