Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
All the heavenly messengers and singers are saved through the Naam, thinking deeply on the Guru's Word.
Quieting their ego, they let the Naam live in their minds forever; they keep the One close in their hearts.
Only the one the One helps to understand can understand; the One joins that person with Itself.
Night and day they sing the Word, the Guru's Bani, lovingly tuned to the True One.
Even the singers of the heavens are set free through the Naam.
Gan gandharab naamay sabh udhray: all the heavenly messengers and singers were saved through the Naam. They did it by thinking deeply about the Guru's sabad, the Word.
How does it work? Ha-umai maar: they quiet the ego, the "me first" feeling. Then the Naam comes to live in the mind, and they keep the One close in the heart. The verse also says only the one the One helps to understand can understand. Think of a friend who explains a hard math problem until it suddenly clicks. After that, day and night, such a person sings the Word, tuned in to what is true.
What is a song or sound that lifts your whole heart?
