Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who turn to the Guru, dyed in the Naam, are saved; they think deeply on the Guru's Word.
Meditating on the One's Naam, they are free while still alive; they keep the One close in their hearts.
Their minds and bodies are spotless, their thinking is spotless and noble, and their words are noble too.
They know the One First Being, the One Lord; there is no other at all.
Those soaked in the Naam can be free while they are still fully living.
Gurmukh naam ratay say udhray: those who turn toward the Guru and are soaked in the Naam are carried safely. Ratay means dyed, like cloth soaked in color.
Then comes a lovely phrase: jeevan mukat, "free while alive." We don't have to wait for some other time to be free. Their mind, body and thoughts become nirmal, clean and clear, and their words become kind and true. Think of a clear glass of water where you can see right to the bottom. Why? Because they have come to know the One, and they know there is no other.
What would it look like to feel free right in the middle of an ordinary day?
