In plain words

Through the True Guru, a person finds the special place, the palace where the One lives, right inside their own home.

Through the Guru's Word, their puffed-up pride goes away.

The special place you are looking for is inside your own home.
The deeper layer

The palace where the One lives is found inside your own home, and the Guru's Word clears away the pride that hides it.

This shabad is a Du-Tukas, a song of two-line verses. Satgur tay paavai ghar dar mahal: through the True Guru one finds the home, the door, the palace, so thaan, that very place. Gur sabdee chookai abhimaan: through the Guru's Word, abhimaan, puffed-up pride, is gone. Think of looking all over the house for your glasses while they sit on your head.

A Question to Sit With

What is something valuable that was near you all along, not far away?
