This mind plays, subject to the Lord's Will; in an instant, it wanders out in the ten directions and returns home again.

When the True Lord God Himself bestows His Glance of Grace, then this mind is instantly brought under control by the Gurmukh. ||3||

In plain words

This mind plays, held inside the flow of the One's will. In a single instant it runs off in ten directions and comes back home again.

When the True One looks with kindness, then the mind of one turned toward the Guru settles down at once.

A restless mind can settle in an instant, like a spinning top coming to rest.
The deeper layer

The mind that runs in every direction can settle in an instant when the One looks with kindness.

Ih man khaylai hukam kaa baadhaa: this mind plays, tied to the hukam, the flow of existence. In one khin, an instant, it runs in dah dis, the ten directions, and comes back. Nadar is the One's kind glance. When it comes, the gurmukh, the one turned toward the Guru, finds the mind settles at once, like a spinning top that finally comes to rest.

A Question to Sit With

When your thoughts race in every direction, what helps them settle?
