Living What You Learn

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਗਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
gur bachnee sach kaar kamaavai gat mat tab hee paa-ee.
When the mortal follows the Guru's Teachings, and lives the Truth, then he attains the state of emancipation.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਤਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
kot maDhay kiseh bujhaa-ay tin raam naam liv laa-ee. ||3||
Among millions, how rare is that one who understands, and is lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord. ||3||

In plain words

When a person follows the Guru's words and lives the Truth, then they find freedom.

Among millions, only a rare one understands this, and stays lovingly tuned to the One's Naam.

Freedom comes from living what you learn.
The deeper layer

Living the Guru's words, day by day, is what sets you free.

Gur bachnee sach kaar kamaavai: a person follows the Guru's words and lives the truth in what they do. Gat mat tab hee paa-ee: only then do they find gat, freedom. It is like reading a recipe and then cooking the meal. You taste it when you make it.

Kot maDhay kiseh bujhaa-ay: among millions, a rare one understands and stays tuned to the Naam. The word "rare" shows how precious this understanding is.
