Found By Grace, In the Sangat

Malaar, Fourth Mehl:
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਊਤਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
agam agochar naam har ootam har kirpaa tay jap la-i-aa.
The Name of the Lord is inaccessible, unfathomable, exalted and sublime. It is chanted by the Lord's Grace.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥੧॥
satsangat saaDh paa-ee vadbhaagee sang saaDhoo paar pa-i-aa. ||1||
By great good fortune, I have found the True Congregation, and in the Company of the Holy, I am carried across. ||1||

In plain words

The Naam of the One is beyond reach, beyond knowing, high and lovely. By the One's kindness, I chant it.

By great good fortune, I have found the Sangat of the holy, and with the holy I am carried across.

What is high beyond reach comes near, by grace, in the Sangat.
The deeper layer

The Naam is far beyond reach, and by grace it comes to your lips; in the Sangat you are carried across.

Agam agochar naam har ootam: the Naam of the One is agam, out of reach, and agochar, beyond what the senses can grasp. Yet har kirpaa tay jap la-i-aa: by the One's kindness, it is chanted.

Satsangat saadh paa-ee vadbhaagee: by great good fortune, I found the satsangat, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Sang saadhoo paar pa-i-aa: with the holy, I am carried across. Think of friends crossing a stream on stepping stones, holding hands, each one helping the next.

A Question to Sit With

When has a good group of people helped you do something you could not do alone?
