Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My mind is full of joy, night and day.

By the Guru's grace, I chant the Naam of the One, and doubt and fear are gone from my mind.

When the Naam fills the mind, doubt and fear simply lift away.
The deeper layer

Joy fills the mind day and night when the Naam, by the Guru's grace, sends doubt and fear away.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Mayrai man an-din anad bha-i-aa: my mind is in anad, joy, night and day. Gur parsaad naam har japi-aa: by the Guru's grace, I chant the Naam. Mayray man kaa bharam bha-o ga-i-aa: the bharam, doubt, and bha-o, fear, of my mind are gone.

Think of a night-light in a dark bedroom. The shadows stop looking scary, and you can rest.

A Question to Sit With

What brings you a steady, quiet kind of joy rather than a quick thrill?
