Lifted Out Of Deep Water

God has showered His Mercy on servant Nanak; He has lifted him up, and rescued him from the ocean of poison. ||4||6||

In plain words

You Yourself made the whole world, and You Yourself hold all of it in Your hands.

Nanak says: the One poured kindness on me, the servant, and lifted me out as I was sinking in an ocean of poison.

When you are sinking in troubled water, kindness can reach in and lift you right out.
The deeper layer

The One made the whole world and holds it, and lifts out the one who is sinking.

Tudh aapay aap upaa-i-aa sabh jag: You Yourself made the whole world. Tudh aapay vas kar la-i-aa: You Yourself hold it all in Your vas, Your hands.

Jan naanak ka-o parabh kirpaa Dhaaree: the One poured kindness on Nanak, the servant. Bikh dubdaa kaadh la-i-aa: sinking in bikh, poison, he was pulled out. The poison is the pull of greed and ego, deep as an ocean. Think of a lifeguard reaching into the deep end and lifting a swimmer up into the air.

A Question to Sit With

When did help reach you at just the moment you needed it most?
