Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Through the True Guru, the One, Har, Har, has come to live in my mind. I give myself to the True Guru, always.
I offer my mind and body and set everything before the Guru. I keep my heart at the Guru's feet.
Be kind to me, my perfect Guru, and bring me close to You Yourself.
Nanak says: I am only a lump of iron. The Guru is the boat that carries me across.
On your own you might feel as heavy as iron. The Guru is the boat that carries you across.
Ham loh gur naav bohithaa: I am loh, iron; the Guru is the bohithaa, the boat. Drop a nail in a pond and it sinks right away. Put that same nail on a boat and it crosses the lake with no trouble. The boat does the carrying, not the iron.
That is grace. We do not have to become light enough to float by ourselves.
Man tan arap: I offer my mind and body. This is a glad, loving giving of oneself, like a player giving their best to the team. It is not about erasing yourself.
Apnee kirpaa karahu gur pooray: please be kind, perfect Guru, and bring me close to You.
When you feel too heavy or stuck to move, what helps carry you through?
