In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The One's people speak the Naam of the Supreme Lord.

They join the Sangat, the company of the One's holy people.

The song of the Name is not sung alone; it joins with every other loving voice.
The deeper layer

The One's people sing the Naam together, in the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

The shabad is a partaal, a song whose beat keeps changing. Here the rahaa-o, the "pause" line and center of the shabad, comes right at the start. The shabad opens by naming the One Creator, Ik Onkar, known by the True Guru's grace.

Har jan bolat sareeraam naamaa means the One's people speak the Naam of the Supreme Lord. Mil saaDhsangat means they join the Sangat, the company of the holy. It is like a choir, each voice different, all singing one song. The whole shabad grows into a choir of all creation.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt part of something bigger by singing or speaking along with others?
