Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
They act as if they understand the Truth, but the Naam does not fill them. They waste their life on ego, always thinking "me, me."
Hooked on putting others down, and on wanting other people's money and other people's wives, they swallow poison and end up in pain.
They think about the Word, yet their fear and their tricks do not leave them. Their minds and their mouths are full of Maya, Maya, the pull of things that pass.
Carrying a load as heavy as a giant snake, they die and are born again, and waste their life once more.
Talk about Truth leaves you hungry inside when ego is running your life.
Saachee surat naam nahee tripatay: they speak as if they know the Truth, yet the Naam does not satisfy them, because haumai, ego, the feeling of being a separate self, keeps steering. Par dhan par naaree rat nindaa: wanting what belongs to others and speaking badly of people is bikh, poison, and it brings pain.
Sabad cheen: even thinking about the Word does not free a mind and mouth full of maya, the pull of things that pass. Ajgar bhaar: the load is as heavy as a python, and the heart that sets nothing down goes round and round, dying and being born again.
If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.
What is the difference between knowing about something and understanding it deep inside?
