Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
They do not wash away their anger at the sacred bathing place, and they do not love the Naam of the One.
They throw away the priceless jewel, and go back the way they came.
They become like a worm living in muck, and in the muck they stay.
The more they taste, the sicker they get. Without the Guru, no one finds peace and calm.
Anger has to be washed away inside, and without the Guru, craving only grows.
Tirath tayj nivaar na nhaatay: they do not bathe at the sacred place in a way that washes away tayj, hot anger. The point is washing that stays on the skin, in any tradition, while the heart stays the same. Ratan padaarath, the priceless jewel thrown away, is the Naam.
Bistaa keet: like a worm in muck, they stay in what does not nourish them. ADhik su-aad rog aDhikaa-ee: the more you taste, the more you sicken. Think of eating one more cookie, then one more, and feeling worse each time. Without the Guru there is no sahj, no easy calm.
What is something that only changes when it changes on the inside?
