Servant Nanak sings the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises; the sound and fury of Death has totally gone away. ||4||1||8||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nanak says: I, the One's servant, sing the praises of the One, and all the noise and fear of death has gone away.
When the heart sings, even the old fears grow quiet and fall away.
Sing the One's praise, and the uproar of death falls quiet.
Naanak jan har keerat gaa-ee means Nanak, the One's servant, sings the One's praise. Keerat means songs of praise. Chhoot ga-i-o jam kaa sabh sor: all the noise of death is gone. Jam is death, and sor is noise or uproar.
The fear is not fought. It simply goes quiet in the song. It is like a thunderstorm passing. The rumbling fades, and the air is calm and fresh. This partaal, the song with the shifting beat, ends in stillness.
