My Closest Friend

ਹਰਿ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾਈ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

The Lord is my Friend and Companion; I am in love with the Lord.

I sing of the Lord, and I speak of the Lord; I have discarded all other loves. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One is my Friend and Companion. I am in love with the One.

I sing of the One, and I speak of the One. I have let go of every other love.

When your heart is full of what matters most, smaller wants lose their pull.
The deeper layer

The One is your closest friend, and that love fills the heart so full that other loves fall away.

Har hamaaro meet sakhaa-ee: the One is my friend and companion. The divine here is close and warm, someone you walk beside, rather than a distant ruler.

A-or dutee-aa pareet ham ti-aagee: I have left behind every other love. When a heart is full of one great love, smaller cravings lose their grip. Love reorders what matters, from the inside out.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to love something so much you can't stop talking about it?
