Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am just a small child; the One, the Great Giver, is my Father.

The child is so foolish and slips up many, many times, but it has nowhere else to go.

Making mistakes never costs you your place with the One who loves you.
The deeper layer

You are the One's small child, and even after countless mistakes, the One is still the only home you have.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Ham baarik pitaa parabh daataa: I am a child, and the One, the Giver, is my Father. Bhooleh baarik anik lakh baree-aa: the child slips up again and again, countless times. An tha-ur naahee jah jaataa: there is nowhere else for it to go.

Think of a toddler who spills the juice, breaks a cup, wanders off, and still runs straight back to the same parent's arms. Having nowhere else to go means the child belongs here, whatever happens.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel safe even after you've made a mistake?
