Nanak, the child, longs for the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan. May His Feet always dwell within my heart. ||4||2||

In plain words

My kind Father has given this command: whatever the child asks for, put it into his mouth.

Nanak says: I, the child, long to see the One. May Your feet live in my heart always.

The deepest thing to ask for is closeness to the One who gives everything.
The deeper layer

What the child asks for most is to see the One and to keep the One's feet in the heart.

Pitaa kirpaal aagi-aa ih deenee: the kind Father has given this order, baarik mukh maangai so daynaa: whatever the child asks for, give it. Naanak baarik daras parabh chaahai: Nanak, the child, longs for the darshan, the sight, of the One. Mohi hirdai baseh nit charnaa: may Your feet always live in my heart. Feet stand for humble closeness, like sitting at a grandparent's feet to listen.

The wanting has grown up, from milk to the One who gives it.

A Question to Sit With

If you could ask for one thing that isn't a thing, what would it be?
