Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Master, I lean on You for support. How could You forget me?

I am Your bride, Your servant, Your helper in Your home. Without my Husband, I have no glory at all.

Belonging to the One is where your worth comes from.
The deeper layer

The soul leans on the One and trusts that the One could never forget it.

Ham tayree dhar su-aamee-aa mayray too ki-o manhu bisaaray: my Master, I lean on You, so how could You forget me? Dhar means support. The question comes from trust, the kind that already knows the loving answer. Think of a small child who knows their parent will always come to pick them up.

The verse uses the old picture of a bride who belongs to her husband, and of a helper who serves in a home. Without the Beloved, she says, there is no sobh, no glory. The feeling is glad belonging, finding our worth by being close to the One.

A Question to Sit With

What belonging makes you feel most fully yourself?
