In plain words

When my Master heard my prayer, the One came quickly, pouring down kindness.

Nanak says: I have become just like my Husband. I am blessed with honor, glory and a good way of living.

We slowly become like whatever we hold closest in our hearts.
The deeper layer

The prayer is heard, and the One comes quickly with kindness, like the rain arriving at last.

Bin-o suni-o jab thaakur mayrai bayg aa-i-o kirpaa dhaaray: when my Master heard my prayer, the One came quickly with mercy. Bin-o means prayer, and bayg means fast. The rain we called for is here.

Then Guru Nanak says something beautiful: we grow like the One we love. Think of best friends who start laughing the same way. The gifts are pat sobhaa bhalay achaaray: honor, dignity and a good way of living. The reward is becoming a good person.

A Question to Sit With
