The pains and sorrows of the terrifying world-ocean are dispelled, by enshrining the Image of the Guru within your heart. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Keep remembering the True Naam of your Beloved.

The pains and sorrows of the frightening ocean of the world fade away when you keep the Guru's image living in your heart.

A steady presence held in your heart makes a big crossing far less frightening.
The deeper layer

Remember the True Naam and keep the Guru in your heart, and the world's fears lose their size.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Pareetam saachaa naam dhi-aa-ay: remember the True Naam of your Beloved. Bhav saagar is the world-ocean, wide and stormy, a big crossing that can feel scary.

Gur kee moorat ridai basaa-ay: keep the Guru's image in your heart. That means the Guru's living presence, held inside you, steady as an anchor in rough water.

A Question to Sit With

What steadies you when something ahead feels big or scary?
