The arduous and terrifying world-ocean is crossed over, O Nanak, by meditating on the Feet of the Lord. ||2||6||10||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Peace has welled up inside me and all my pain is gone, because my heart is tuned in love to the Supreme One.

Nanak says: by remembering the feet of the One, I have crossed the hard and frightening ocean of the world.

A hard crossing becomes possible one loving thought at a time.
The deeper layer

Tune your heart to the One, and peace rises up from inside.

Sukh upjay: peace wells up from inside, like a spring. Dukh sagal binaasay: all pain is gone. Paarbarahm liv laa-ee: the heart is tuned in love to the Supreme One.

Kathin bhai saagar: the hard, frightening ocean of the world, a crossing that looked too big. Har charan dhi-aa-ee: remembering the One's feet carries you over, one loving thought at a time.

A Question to Sit With

What big thing became doable once you took it one small step at a time?
