That humble being, whose conduct is in harmony with the jewel of the Guru's Shabad, obtains the Ambrosial Nectar. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One, beyond reach and without end, sits in the mansion.

The nectar is inside. It is found by the one whose way of living matches the jewel of the Guru's Word.

The greatest treasure is kept in a place closer than you think.
The deeper layer

The boundless One sits in a mansion inside you, and a life that matches the Word finds the nectar there.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Mahal meh baithay agam apaar: the One, agam, beyond reach, and apaar, without end, is seated in the mahal, the mansion. Bheetar amrit: the nectar is within. Gur kaa sabad ratan aachaar: the one whose aachaar, way of living, matches the jewel of the Guru's Word receives it.

Think of a house with a beautiful room you have walked past every day without opening the door.

A Question to Sit With

Where is a place inside yourself that feels quiet and precious?
