Sikhism·Raag Malaar·Shabad 51
Verse 3 of 5

Everything Moves In The Flow

ਗਾਵਣੁ ਸੁਨਣੁ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
gaavan sunan sabh tayraa bhaanaa.
Singing and listening, it is all by Your Will.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
hukam boojhai so saach samaanaa.
One who understands the Hukam of Your Command is absorbed in Truth.
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਂਉ ॥
jap jap jeeveh tayraa naaN-o.
Chanting and meditating on Your Name, I live.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥
tujh bin doojaa naahee thaa-o. ||2||
Without You, there is no place at all. ||2||

In plain words

Singing and listening, all of it comes by Your will.

Whoever understands the flow of life melts into Truth.

Remembering Your Naam again and again, I live.

Without You, there is no other place to be.

Understanding the flow of life puts you on solid ground.
The deeper layer

Everything, even your singing and listening, moves inside the One's will; understand that flow and you settle into Truth.

Gaavan sunan sabh tayraa bhaanaa means singing and listening all happen by Your will. Bhaanaa means will, the way the One wants things to go. Hukam boojhai so saach samaanaa: whoever understands the hukam melts into the Truth.

Hukam is the flow of life, like water flowing downhill. When you swim with the current, the river carries you. Jap jap jeeveh: remembering and remembering Your Name, I live. And tujh bin doojaa naahee thaa-o: without You, there is no other place to stand. That echoes Ik Onkar, the One Creator. Nothing is outside the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you stopped fighting, and felt more at peace once you did?
