Maya with her three gunas - the three dispositions - has come to entice me; whom can I tell of my pain? ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Maya, the shiny pull of the world with its three moods, has come to tempt me. Who can I tell about my hurt?

Some longings are so deep you want someone who understands them.
The deeper layer

The world's shiny pull tugs at you, and the ache of missing the One looks for someone who understands.

Trai gun maa-ee mohi aa-ee: Maya, with her three moods (the gunas), has come to tempt me. Maya is the world's glitter, the things that pull you away from the Beloved. Kahan-o baydan kaahi: to whom can I tell my pain? It is an honest question, the lover looking for someone who understands. The next verse answers it.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a feeling you wish someone understood?
