Verse 2 of 3

The Earth Turns Green

ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਫੜੈ ਮਿਲਿ ਮੇਘ ਧਰ ਸੁਹਾਗ ॥੧॥
sant sangay man parfarhai mil maygh Dhar suhaag. ||1||
My mind blossoms forth in the Society of the Saints; soaking up the rain, the earth is blessed and beautified. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of the saints, my mind blossoms like a flower.

It is like the earth meeting the rain clouds: soaking up the rain, it turns green and beautiful.

Given the right rain, a dry heart turns green again.
The deeper layer

Your mind blossoms among holy people, the way dry earth turns green when the rain comes.

Sant sangay man parfarhai: in the company of the saints, the mind blossoms. This blossoming is vigaas, the heart opening like a flower. Mil megh dhar suhaag: meeting the rain clouds, the earth is blessed and made beautiful, the way a bride is adorned on her wedding day. The parched ground turning green (hari-aa) is the central Malaar picture of a soul watered by remembrance.

A Question to Sit With
