Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Sing the goodness of the Lord of the World, every day.

Keep the Naam of the One in your mind.

Small good habits, done every day, quietly become who you are.
The deeper layer

Sing the goodness of the One every day, and keep the Naam in your mind.

This is the pause line, the rahaa-o, the center of the shabad. Gun gopaal gaa-o neet — sing the goodness of the One every day. Gopaal means the One who cares for the whole world. Doing it every day is its own kind of gift. It is like watering a plant a little each morning rather than flooding it once a month.

Raam naam Dhaar cheet — hold the Naam in your mind. This is simran, loving remembrance. It is not saved for one special hour. It is woven quietly into ordinary moments, like humming a favorite tune while you walk to school.

A Question to Sit With

What is one good thing you would like to do a little of every day?
