Meditate in loving remembrance on the One Lord; your sorrows shall be ended, O friend. ||1||

In plain words

Let go of your pride, set down that puffed-up feeling, and join the Sangat, the company of holy people.

Remember the One with a single love, and your sorrows will come to an end, my friend.

Pride is heavy; setting it down is a relief, not a loss.
The deeper layer

Pride is heavy. Setting it down is a relief.

Chhod maan taj gumaan — let go of pride, drop the puffed-up feeling. That feeling is haumai, the ego, the "me first" voice inside. Letting it go is not about crushing yourself. It is like taking off a heavy backpack at the end of a long day. The ego is something to heal gently, not something to fight.

Mil saaDhoo-aa kai sang — join the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One. Har simar ayk rang — remember the One with love. Then mit jaahi dokh meet — "your sorrows will fade, my friend." The Sangat and loving remembrance, kept up together, help the sorrows melt.

A Question to Sit With

When has letting go of needing to be right or best made you feel lighter?
