Flying among the trees and plants, I remain hungry; lovingly drinking in the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am satisfied. ||4||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
I fly from tree to tree, from plant to plant, and I stay hungry.
When I lovingly drink in the Naam, I am satisfied.
You can taste a hundred things and still be hungry for the one that fills you.
The world's many treats leave you hungry; the Naam, taken in with love, fills you.
Picture a bird flitting from branch to branch, pecking here and there, never full. That is the restless search through the world's pleasures, one after another. The Naam is the presence of the One, kept in mind the way you keep someone you love in your thoughts. Peevaa naam subhaa-ee — drinking it in with love, the hunger settles.
A Question to Sit With
Have you ever kept snacking on little things when what you needed was something else?
